Don't Lock the Stable Door After the Horse is Stolen

by Jim Fritz

As a very young boy my father told me about the parable of not locking the stable door. This was after I woke up one morning and found my red Flyer wagon stolen. I had left it outside near the sidewalk the night before. Many people interpret this old proverb in different ways, but I understood what my father meant, “You cannot change the past, but you can learn not to repeat it.”

I wonder if our bishops and other clergy will learn this same thing after waking up and finding the US Supreme Court decision to legalize so-called, “same-sex” marriages for homosexuals. Our Catholic right to a normal and natural marriage has been stolen. The bishops still do not seem to get the message my father gave me many years ago.

Most of our bishops and nearly all of our clergy have been ignoring the propagation of sodomy for many years. In fact, they refuse even to use the term “sodomy” in case it may offend someone.

Our clergy have for the most part ignored the papal encyclical, Humanae Vitae, published in 1968 by Pope Paul VI. Many bishops even went so far as to rally against it. Most Catholics don’t have a clue as to what is in this encyclical. This has resulted in the widespread use of contraception and other evils. The Church should have taught all along that using contraception means rejecting God and his life-giving blessings. The Church should have been teaching contraception is wrong and the use of it will lead to bad consequences.

When spouses violate the teachings of Humanae Vitae they do not act in accord with their innate dignity and thus endanger their own happiness. They treat their bodies as mechanical instruments to be manipulated for their own purposes and learn to treat each other as objects of pleasure. This concept of using the human body solely for pleasure also led to acceptance of homosexuality.

Nearly 50 years of neglecting Humanae Vitae have produced numerous unpleasant consequences. Realizing this has helped us recognize how foolish and dangerous it is to squander that patrimony. Unfortunately, the Church leaders are blaming the Supreme Court instead of their own ignorance and the neglect of their own duties. When have you heard a homily on Natural Family Planning?

Our “Church of Nice” will not say anything negative to or about those suffering from sodomy. Our clergy pretends the issue needed only compassion, not condemnation. We must be nice to everyone. We cannot even use the word ‘’sodomy” as it may offend someone. The sodomites must be called “gay” even though we know they are far from gay and have the highest of suicide rates. In reality we must love them, but with love we must attempt to convince them to change their lifestyle and get back on the road to Heaven, not to Hell. As Father Groeschel once said, “The word ’nice’ is not in the Bible.”

The majority of our clergy are good, saintly priests; however, there have been many who have not protected the sheep. Where are our leaders who should have kept rampant homosexuality out of the seminaries? Instead coddled and protected actively gay men in their own ranks. We see our cardinals leading “gay” parades. We see our clergy covering up pedophilia. We see altars draped in the rainbow flag. We see our Masses being conducted by pedophile priests. And the list goes on and on.

Our USCCB continues to publish a voter’s guide encouraging all Catholics to vote for politicians who will not support our faith and will appoint the liberal, anti-Christian members of the Supreme Court.

Our bishops continue to sell out our Catholic beliefs by sponsoring “Catholic” organizations such as the CCHD and CRS which ignore Catholic teaching in order to accept government money.

The silence in our homilies concerning the sins of contraception and sodomy is deafening.

The reputations of our Catholic Colleges are even worse. Teachers and professors have scandalized students by their teaching and example. The presidents of these colleges, usually Catholic priests or bishops, are noted for inviting speakers notoriously against Catholic principles. Most of these invited speakers support a pro-abortion agenda. In one such incident, the president of the college covered the crucifix during a speech by the most pro-abortion president of the United States.

The most egregious incident occurred at the Notre Dame “Catholic” University a few years ago when a group of pro-life Catholics and Non-Catholics protested an honorary award given to the newly elected most anti-Catholic president ever elected to the United States. The president of the university, a Catholic priest, illegally arrested 88 protestors who were merely walking on the campus. Some were carrying signs. These 88 innocent pro-lifers included two very holy Catholic priests, six Protestant clergy, plus 80 innocent men and women. All of them were handcuffed and put into jail. Some of them, including two women, spent the night in jail.

Poll after poll shows that of all the religions in America, Catholics are the one most accepting of gay marriage. Is it any wonder? Catholics have been led by sodomite-accepting clergy for decades. Also, most of the “orthodox” clergy have said nothing. We have even been told by our clergy we should never criticize our errant bishops.

Have our bishops learned a lesson from this? What stable door do they next need to lock? In other words, what will the anti-Christians go after next? You can bet it will be an attempt to redefine the First Amendment. What are our bishops going to do to stop this new theft? If St. John Chrysostom was correct when he said the road to Hell is paved with the skulls of bishops, the bishops will do nothing.

The First Amendment says, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof if..." It applies to every American, in every occupation, of every faith. However, some Congressmen argue that religious liberty is limited to the four walls of a church. You can believe this is the next horse to be stolen. It is doubtful our bishops will do anything.

We must speed up our action to protect religious freedom. News outlets are already urging Washington to strip the tax exemptions from faith-based organizations, schools, and charities. It is doubtful our bishops will do anything. We need faithful people to fight for our religious freedom. We need faithful people to rise up and fight for our faith. We need some saints!

Please do whatever you can to insist our bishops and clergy do what is right in the eyes of God, not man. Tell them to speak out on our true and entire faith. Above all, pray for them. Pray they will learn from their mistakes and will prepare for the future attacks on our Christian faith.
